Our Church

WHY THE WELL?

In ancient times, the local well was a place where people would come to draw water for their families and animals- it provided sustenance to the people. Drawing water was life-giving in two major ways: First, it provided precious water in a dry and arid desert region; secondly, it was a place where everyday people gathered together to connect and share their lives and stories.

In the fourth gospel, there is a fascinating story where Jesus encounters a Samaritan woman at a well. In this account, Jesus begins a dialogue with this unnamed woman using the water as an object lesson to communicate His life-changing message. He said:

"Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again, It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life."

(John 4:13-14, NLT)

The well was the place where this woman encountered Jesus  and her life was never the same again!

The Well Church was founded for the purpose of meeting people where they are at- a "church for the unchurched".  We believe that this was the example Jesus lived throughout his lifetime: He didn't wait for people to come to Him; rather, Jesus went out to the people. He was committed to making real, authentic followers (also called disciples) whose lives mirrored His own. These two ideas serve as the foundation for everything we do here at the Well: to become a place where people can connect to each other through Jesus Christ and have a growing and authentic relationship with Him. Our Story

Our Story

The Well Church began as a small-group study at the house of our worship pastor in January of 2015. Twenty-five people who were passionate about reaching into the community attended that first meeting. It was determined that the South Shore needed a church that would focus on going out and meeting people where they were at, instead of waiting (or expecting) for them to wander into a church.

Our launch date was scheduled for February 22, 2015, and on that day we held our first service...ever! On that snowy morning, we met at the Halifax Country Club and 101 people showed up for the first gathering. We were blown away by the response and on that day the Well Community Church was officially launched!

LAUNCH SERVICE 2015

We took an incredible step of fearless faith in October of 2015 when we signed a lease on a 10,000 sf building at the Halifax Plaza in the center of town. This has become the home-base of operations out of which we plan to MULTIPLY all across the South Shore through starting campuses, churches and by MULTIPLYING service times (1c3).

2015 was a busy year, but we realize God's just getting started here @ the Well Church!

He is constantly at work in our church: lives are being changed, stories are being re-written, and relationships are being restored!  We are so pumped to see what God will do in the future and would love for you to join us in this spiritual journey!!

NeTWORK CHURCHES

NeTWORK CHURCHES

We here at the WELL CHURCH passionately believe that WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER! Because of this belief we are part of a group of INCREDIBLE network churches that have helped us along our way. Though each one of these churches are absolutely independent, we are all on a SIMILAR MISSION with a SIMILAR VISION- to reach those CLOSE TO US and FAR FROM GOD and make real, genuine followers of JESUS CHRIST.  Because of this common interest, we regularly get together (both as leaders and as churches) for such AMAZING activities as the Men's Warriors Conference, the Ladies' Shine Conference and various other "events".  Each of these pastors and churches have invested in the Well in some way and we are honored to consider them part of our network/story.

What We Believe

What We Believe

ABOUT GOD

We believe in one, eternal divine Being who exists as three separate but equal persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is the creator of all things visible and invisible. The Bible reveals the story of God, Creation, the Fall, and the restoration of God’s creation. It is accurate and reliable for matters of faith and conduct in the church. (Matthew 28:19, 1 Corinthians 8:6, John 14:26, John 15:26, Genesis 1:26, Philippians 2:5-8, John 1:21, 2 Corinthians 13:14, Matthew 3:16-17).

ABOUT CREATION

In the beginning of time, God created the heavens and the earth and everything in them. Throughout His-story, God has expressed His desire to have a personal, eternal relationship with His creation. (Gen. 1:1, 26, Isaiah 37:16, Jeremiah 32:17, Matthew 19:4-6, John 1:1-3, Colossians 1:16).

ABOUT THE FALL

We believe that man and woman rebelled against God (Genesis 2-4) and His created world/order. Since that time, every human being has suffered the consequences of this rebellion: alienation from God and from His creation. This alienation from our Creator results in death. Furthermore, there is nothing we can do on our own to reconcile and re-establish our relationship with Him.  (Genesis 3:16, John 3:1-36, Romans 1:1-32, 5:12, 1 Timothy 2:1-15).

ABOUT JESUS

We believe that God has graciously provided the means to reconcile our broken lives in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the redeemer in His-story. He is the eternal and divine Son of God who was conceived by the Holy Spirit. He lived a sinless life and died the death that we deserved on the cross. He rose from the dead three days later to rescue us from sin and conquer death. After appearing to many witnesses on countless occasions, Jesus went back into heaven where He now serves as the mediator between God and humanity. This is the Good News (or gopsel) that the Well Church is committed to sharing: that God loved us enough to do for us what we couldn't do for ourselves and that this opportuntiy is available to everyone everywhere regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, etc. Jesus will one day return to earth to complete his Revelation plan (though this plan is open to various interepretations the result is the same: Good will overcome Evil, and every wrong will be righted and absolute justice will be restored. (Matthew 28:18, John 3:3, 14:6, Acts 2:38, 16:31, Romans 6:23, 10:9, Philippians 2:5-11, Titus 2:13, Hebrews 12:2).

ABOUT NEW LIFE AND SALVATION

We believe God gives us a new life, an eternal life, when we turn from our sin and we put our faith in Jesus Christ to be our Savior and King. A life aligned with Him prioritizes community, scripture, prayer, nature, a positive attitude, worship, service, and generosity. Furthermore, we believe that after placing one’s faith in Christ, that Christ continues to be active in our lives and should be constantly growing/changing . There is also an assurance that nothing that we ever do or say can separate us from His Love and Grace.  The Bible also states that those who die without having this relationship are separated from God. (Job 14:14-16, Psalm 39:1-7, Proverbs 11:30-31, Matthew 7:13-14, John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8-10, 1 John 5:13-14, Revelation 3:5-9).

ABOUT THE CHURCH

We believe that the church is God’s MAIN instrument to carry out HIS mission of LOVE and RECONCILIATION into a lost world. The Bible refers to the church as Christ’s body and Jesus as its head. The church has two main purposes: 1)  foremost to provide a BOLD and POWERFUL witness to the community and world at large to let them know that they don't have to live in their issues/struggles/shortcomings (i. e. sin) anymore, that they can have freedom in Jesus Christ;  2) to care for those who are Christian and build a Christ-centered community. (Matthew 16:18, Acts 1:41-42, 2:42-47, Ephesians 1:22, Hebrews 10:24-25, 1 Peter 2:5).

ABOUT RESTORATION

We believe that the Bible is God’s letter to humanity, and in the final chapter of this story there is a restoration of God’s creation. A new and better world is coming where evil, death, and separation from God will no longer exist. We believe this is when heaven and earth will become one as God intended it to be. (Isaiah 1:18, Jeremiah 30:17, 32:27,  Job 42:10,  Acts 3:21, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Colossians 3:12-14).
